Georgian brand Wine Diamond, which makes jewelry and accessories from wine stone, was created in 2021 by Tamar Abuladze. According to her, “Wine stone is an integral and natural part of wine. These are potassium salts of wine acid, which are released from wine when the temperature drops sharply and solidify on the walls of the vessel, and no matter what color the wine is, it releases crystals of that color.”
Ond makes jewelry from 12 types of wine stone. Prices for brooches, rings, earrings, shirt clips and other accessories range from 240 to 500 GEL. At this stage, the brand is working on expanding its export network and plans in the future to make “wine in jewelry” a separate trend not only in Georgia, but also in the world.
Kommersant spoke with Tamar Abuladze about the creation, concept, and future plans for the brand's development.
When was Wine Diamond created and where did the idea come from? What is its concept?
_ Tamar Abuladze, founder of Wine Diamond, Emocia Wines, Emocia Handmade Jewelry, and Marila: The idea came about at the beginning of 2021, completely unplanned. I went through a difficult process, and the result was worth it. One of the motivations was that winemakers did not believe in this idea. I wanted to prove that nothing is impossible with determination and proper work. In the end, I discovered that I had touched on a truly unique topic. Today, my own method of creating wine stones is protected by Sakpatenti.
Wine Diamond is a completely new word in the world of fashion and wine. Our jewelry will preserve each year's harvest forever. The products carry the energy of the wine from which they are made. We use only the best quality wine. Each product is unique and one-of-a-kind, because there are no 2 exactly identical copies. Accordingly, the owners of our jewelry can be completely sure that they are adorned with a unique piece of jewelry that no one else will have.
Our concept is to create something that has never been seen before. It is important that our creations emphasize that this product was created in Georgia! We do everything to introduce our country to the world in the best possible light.
What is the technology, how is wine stone created, if such a stone exists in nature?
_ Wine stone is an integral and natural part of wine. Enologists also call it tartrate. These are potassium salts of tartaric acid, which are released from wine when the temperature drops sharply and solidify on the walls of the vessel. Whatever color the wine is, it releases crystals of that color. Their brilliance and beauty are truly diamond-like.
How many types of wine stones do you make jewelry from?
_ At this stage, we have about 12 types of wine stones, from different harvests and different vineyards. No one has a collection like ours, because winemakers, after the wine is made, free the vessels from wine stones. Every year our collection of crystals grows and the more time passes, the more unique it will be.
What jewelry do you make?
_ We have women's, men's and youth directions, which combine rings, earrings, brooches, necklaces, crosses, bracelets, necklaces, men's shirt clips. We have a separate line - on the theme of Georgia and wine, where you will find jewelry with a wine glass, a pitcher and a Georgian contour shape. We have recently created silk scarves, bags and T-shirts, on which impressive photos of wine stones are transferred. This direction also has no analogues, and we can boldly declare that you will not find anything like it anywhere else.
Where is your jewelry sold? Only online, or elsewhere?
_ Our jewelry is sold online in Georgia, both on Facebook and Instagram, and also from a website, from where it can be purchased directly and easily. We do not have a physical store at this stage, although we are thinking about this issue in the future.
Who are your customers, Georgians or more foreigners?
_ Our main and loyal customers are Georgians who love innovations and who are looking for a special gift. Each product is accompanied by branded packaging and an English-language passport, which contains interesting information about Georgia, as the homeland of wine, and also contains detailed information about our jewelry. At first, we thought that our customers would be middle-aged people, however, experience has shown us that young people are much more flexible and courageous towards innovations. We have many loyal and devoted customers, whom we value very much.
What are your plans for the future?
_ Our main goal is to make “wine in jewelry” a separate trend not only in Georgia, but also in the world. This will require a lot of effort and financial resources, but the desire is so great that we believe we will achieve this within a reasonable time. Before that, we want to work more on improving the design and expanding the export network.
