Recently, under the name of Emocia Wines, which creates handmade accessories inspired by wine and grapes, the world's first wine stone jewelry was made. The accessory is presented in the highest silver standard and is produced as part of the premium line of “Wine Emotion” – “Wine Diamond” – under the name “Wine Diamond”.
On the other hand, creating wine jewelry was not easy. As the founder of “Wine Emotion”, Tamuna Abuladze, tells us, the process of perfecting the idea was met with great resistance, since all experienced winemakers and alchemists were convinced that jewelry could not be made from wine stone. They said that these small crystals are loose and slippery like sugar, and although it turned out to be very difficult to bind them together, after several unsuccessful attempts, it was still possible to make beautiful and, most importantly, natural-colored, durable and durable jewelry from wine stone.
What is wine stone? – These small crystals, which oenologists call tartrates, wine lovers call wine stones, and some call wine diamonds – are actually potassium salts of tartaric acid. Tartaric acid is an acid that occurs naturally in all wines from grapes and, in turn, determines the structure, balance, and aroma of wine. These crystals form in a qvevri, bottle, or cistern when the temperature of the wine drops sharply. They resemble diamond crystals that settle sometimes on the bottom of the vessel, sometimes on the cork, and never dissolve in the wine. Both tartaric acid and potassium occur naturally in wine. It is a very useful element. The richer the wine is in potassium, the more useful the drink is.
We are proud that the world’s first wine stone jewelry was born in Georgia, just like the qvevri and the wine itself, – Tamuna Abuladze.
As for the color of wine stone – the crystals get it from wine pigment, anthocyanins. Whatever color the wine has, the wine stone is also colored. For example: Rkatsiteli stone is yellowish, and Saperavi – dark purple. The “wine diamond” stone is never colored. If the authors’ goal is to get a different color, they simply mix several types of crystals together and get the desired result in this way.
Its author, Tamuna Abuladze, tells us in more detail about the world’s first jewelry made of wine stone:
Wines?
I am Tamuna Abuladze, the founder of the brand “Emotion”. I worked in the corporate department of “Geocell” for 15 years. I had a very interesting, business life, which was radically different from my current working style. “Geocell” was known for its sophisticated corporate culture and high standards of service. Accordingly, the experience gained in this company had a great influence on the correct formation and success of my brand. Before “Emotion”, I had no contact with any field of art. I discovered this interest in myself quite by accident.
M: And as for “Emotion”, how did you initially define the company’s activities and what paths of development have you taken so far?
“Emotion” has several lines: the first direction was defined by handmade accessories made of natural stones, which are still very popular; Next was the “Wine Emotion” brand, known for its grape brooches, and recently the premium line of this brand – Wine Diamond, appeared, which is the first and unique in the world.
The idea of creating jewelry from wine stone came to me quite by chance. I had such an idea that I had no rest day or night until I brought it to fruition.
M: What is your goal as a brand?
Our goal is to introduce Georgia to the whole world as the homeland of wine – with its unique grape varieties, which have a history of over 8,000 years. We want as many people as possible to carry the symbol of Georgia and a small part of our great emotion – with their hands and hearts.
Our brand’s calling card is often considered to be our brooches made of natural stones, which are imitations of Georgian grape varieties, precisely those accessories. Each bunch is created individually, by hand, and never resembles the other. The structure of the grape is as close as possible to its real analogue. It also comes with its own passport, which talks about Georgia as the homeland of wine and this particular grape variety.
We are proud that our grapes adorn the hearts of the American singer, composer and actress Lisa Simone, representatives of the diplomatic corps and the president, - Tamuna Abuladze.
M: What niche do you want to occupy in the local or international markets?
We have already said an important word in the local market in the wine sector, because we have a very large selection of wine accessories for wine lovers. If our customers want to make a premium gift to an important person, they always entrust this task to us, which really motivates us.
As for international markets, we are already on several online platforms. Also, our products have been sent to France, the city of Cannes and Australia. We want to become leaders in handmade accessories created with a wine theme.
M: Who will make the jewelry? Describe the process, what path do you take before the product is ready for sale?
I create jewelry only for myself, according to my taste and design. There are several stages in creating jewelry from wine stone: first, the wine stone must be dried well, then it must be ground to get the desired size of the crystals. And here begins the most interesting process – attaching these crystals and inserting them into the jewelry.
I tried very hard to get the product in the form it is presented today. I had many unsuccessful attempts, but in the end, I achieved what I wanted.
I do not accept orders, although I do make exceptions when I take into account the customer's request and create jewelry inspired by their idea, but still in my own way.
Today, the method of making jewelry from wine stone is already protected by Sakpatenti as my intellectual property, – Tamuna Abuladze.
M: What is the main concern of your brand at this stage?
To date, the brand exists with its own financial resources, but after I created Wine Diamond, I realized that much more resources are needed for development. From this perspective, our main challenge is to create original products and establish ourselves in foreign markets. I think we will be able to achieve this goal by the end of this year.
M: What about your global vision?
In the future plan, there is another product of Emocia Wines, which will also surprise and delight both Georgian and foreign friends.
In addition, I can also assure you that soon the third and final direction will be added to Emocia – Emocia Kids, which will also be unprecedented and unique. We believe that this direction will also occupy a unique niche in local and international markets.
